Well my friends, to those of you who have been following my facebook posts will know that I have been working on an Opus dedicated to the 100 anniversary of the historic teaching trip of Abdu’l Baha, the Son of the Founder of the Baha’i Faith, Who courageously set out at an old age immediately after being set free from serving a 40 year prison sentence, to bring His Father’s Faith to the West. It is titled, The Rainbow World, and I started working on this musical piece with so much distraction and effort as I sold my home in San Jose and moved to Sacramento. I woke up sometimes as early as 4 in the morning so full of inspiration to set down my thoughts, reading and re-reading of His incredible journey as He gave up to 4 talks a day explaining the tenets of His Faith and what we must do to unite the world and bring the long awaited age of peace and prosperity to mankind. At every gathering He was wont to ask, “Are you happy?” His lessons were couched in the simplest terms and words. His love was infectous and to all that met Him remarked of His perfections and kindness. He felt a kinship with us and called us the spiritual descendants of the dawnbreakers, those holy souls who He knew personally who were persecuted for believing in the power we all hold to effect a change in our time. He was and is for all time the Centre of Our Covenant to remain united in our thoughts, our views, and efforts. There are a couple of sites dedicated to His travels here in America and I invite you all to do a search about this man who came to teach us how to truely live in this age that is so pregnant with potential.

I hope to have one of the songs ready for download shortly so that you can hear one of the movements and have the whole Opus finished by this summer. Until then, I will leave you with some words from one of His first talks,

“With hearts set aglow by the fire of the love of God and spirits refreshed by the food of the heavenly spirit you must go forth as the disciples nineteen hundred years ago, quickening the hearts of men by the call of glad tidings, the light of God in your faces, severed from everything save God. Therefore, order your lives in accordance with the first principle of the divine teaching, which is love. Service to humanity is service to God. Let the love and light of the Kingdom radiate through you until all who look upon you shall be illumined by its reflection. Be as stars, brilliant and sparkling in the loftiness of their heavenly station. Do you appreciate the Day in which you live?

This is the century of the Blessed Perfection!

This is the cycle of the light of His beauty!

This is the consummate day of all the Prophets!”

Finishing out my first week here in Sacramento…whew, what a week it has been. Not used to the traffic here yet. What a difference from the Bay area. Confirmed what I have thought my whole life…people are just more friendly from here North. It’s more laid back, people take time to smile at one another, say hi, and talk to one another. It will take me a month or more before I get used to it. In some ways, I hope I never do. I want to remember what it was like to not have time to make a new friend so that I will constantly reach out to meet new people.

Even the air seems different. Things feel suspended..not sure if it is just me in that in-between state of not being fully moved here yet with my family back in San Jose or the changing of the winter season.

Starting to get back to work on a few tunes. I have a few ideas I would like some input on. Should I start on new material first OR finish up on a few songs that are half-way done? Either way, Music is coming! Let me know, I would like to hear from you.

It hard to imagine that this year is actually over. So much has happened for me this year. It started off kind of quietly, a wierd kind of summer, then with the release of Reason 6 and attending the Music weekend in Oct in Santa Cruz, meeting a fellow musician to collaborate with, a wealth of new ideas to explore, figuring out some things about modes and scales that has stump me for decades, and now getting ready for a big move north; nearer to my family’s original home since the early 1800′s.

I pause to reflect on other changes as well. The world has sure gotten crazier…everyone seems so aware of what is wrong. It seems to me like there are very few though who know or believe that we have a power given us to change it. We only have to believe we can. Some changes take 10 years or more, like me returning to my roots or figuring out something about music that has escaped me. Changing the world around us demands a bigger committment from us…a lifelong committment maybe…that we will never lose hope in one another.

I remember reading a quote somewhere, I think it was from Mathatma Ghandi or Dr Martin Luther King Jr that went something like this, “There are no great people, only great causes. What makes one appear great is when one identifies themself with them.” So my hope for each of you this year is that you will immerse yourselves into something you can believe in…something that gives you that sense of empowerment to make this world better…that; ultimately, is something worth believing in!

Well, my friends, I will be moving to Sacramento, Calif. around mid-Jan. I got a job transfer from San Jose and so there may be a small lull for a few weeks while I settle in. If you have been reading my recent posts you will have known that John Armour and I have been busy working on some music together. We have discussed how we can work long distance and will attempt to share music files and see what we can come up with. We will only be about 2 hours away from each other and still plan to meet once a month to record and collaborate. I have 2 songs ready to post and will try to have it up for the holidays~ Hope everyone gets as good a present as I did!
